I joined the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU), Brazil in 2014, where I am currently an Assistant Professor with the Faculty of Computing, a member of the Postgraduate Programs in Computer Science and in Agriculture and Geospatial Information. I am also a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and a recipient of the Google Latin America Research Awards, 2020.
My research interests include topics from Artificial and Computational Intelligence areas like Machine Learning, Data Science, Complex Networks and Nature-Inspired Computing.
My recent contributions focus on both modeling network-based learning systems able to provide distinct and efficient kinds of data analysis, and the development of efficient AI-based solutions to challenging healthcare problems, like the COVID-19 diagnosis.

[Dec, 2021]: Our international patent application related to the Development of a Technological Platform to COVID-19 Diagnosis has been published.

[Nov, 2021]: Our research project Data Classification based on Complex Networks for Molecular Diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder has been selected for funding by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq).
[Oct, 2021]: I have been invited to contribute as a Review Committee member in the track of Machine Learning and Applications of the ACM Symposium on Applied Computing (SAC 2022).
[Oct, 2021]: Our research project Network-based learning for the salivary molecular diagnosis of COVID-19 has been selected for funding by the Minas Gerais State Research Foundation (FAPEMIG).
